What type of massage and why?
I do two types of massage: Swedish & Aromatherapy. I believe that they are both powerful in their own right but I like to take it one step further and if you’re up for it, combine the two; meaning that you get the physical intensity (if that’s your thing) of a deep Swedish massage but with the healing properties of essential oils, put together based on your individual needs.

What Is Swedish Massage?
High level, Swedish massage is designed to:
  • Enhance circulation and blood flow to the large muscle groups
  • Relieve  pressure to tight spots, knots and trapped nerves
  • Loosen and lengthen muscles

Swedish massage is much more than just a relaxing indulgence. It has many health benefits and, in fact, there is evidence backed research that links Swedish massage to a number of benefits, such as reduction in knee arthritis, easing the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, lowering blood pressure, boosting immune system function, reducing headaches, reducing stress levels and helping to mitigate the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Massage also reduces cortisol, the “stress” hormone, whilst increasing serotonin, which means that it can help with fatigue, depression and anxiety.

Swedish massage’s main benefit is the overall relaxation that it provides. The strokes of the massage relax individual muscles, while the overall experience eliminates mental stress and they also replicate the movements of the circulatory system. By performing the strokes toward the heart, Swedish massage drains metabolic waste from the limbs of the body. Some of the strokes used in Swedish therapy increase blood flow, which further quickens the removal of bodily waste. It’s great for toxin elimination on hangover days too! 😉

Swedish massage is also used  for sports injuries and chronic pain. Sessions can target specific areas of pain or they can be used to help manage the chronic pain that comes with conditions like arthritis. By using strokes that improve circulation and increase body-wide relaxation, Swedish massage can make many painful conditions more bearable. It can also help to relieve pain that even stretching or foam rolling can’t get to.

What is Aromatherapy Massage?
Aromatherapy massage is all of the above but with the addition of essential oils that are added to the main carrier oil, used in Swedish Massage. Some therapists and spas use a standard concoction on clients but I create an oil tailor-made to you, based on your indivdual needs and concerns, which we will discuss in your initial consultation. You will see me add 3 different essential oils to the carrier oil, which will have a more powerful effect than the oils would have on their own and we will use this for your massage. You will take away the remainder of the oil to use in the bath, shower or oil diffuser at home. It is a heavenly experience with a very slight variation in massage style but with all the same benefits of a Swedish massage, accelerated by your personal oil. Of course, as with all of my massages, more or less pressure can be applied.

Your Massage Experience:
Before your massage:
I will send you a form to complete to ensure that we are able to proceed with a massage for you.
On the day of your massage:
You will be welcomed into a warm, dimly lit and lightly scented room with gentle music playing. We will discuss your individual needs to ensure we create the most powerful oil for you. Whilst you get undressed  and get comfortable on the massage table, cocooned by an electric heated blanket for the ultimate relaxation experience, I will prepare your tailor-made oil using 3 different pure essential oils mixed with a carrier oil. Your massage will be carried out in silence. It is important to relax as much as possible to reap the full benefits of the massage, not only physically but mentally too.
At the end of your massage:
You will take away the rest of your tailor-made oil in a small bottle to either use in a bath, shower or oil diffuser. You will also take away an aftercare sheet.
